I began working as a freelance translator while studying for a Masters Degree in Applied Translation Studies at London Metropolitan University. Before this I was employed by the Japanese Education Ministry to teach English at Japanese high schools. I spent two years immersed in the language and culture of Japan, living on the remote and beautiful Sado Island, a cultural melting pot rich in history and living traditions, where I gained a deeper understanding of Japan both past and present.
I originally trained as a classical guitarist, and after studying at London's Guildhall School of Music I worked as a performer, teacher and music therapist, before a fascination with Japanese language and culture eventually led me to change career paths.
